Derma Guard is an effective form of tattooist skin care for both tattooists and the aftercare of tattoo’s by protecting the skin with a microscopic shield.

Glove allergy can affect anyone who is required to wear gloves and sanitise their skin; e.g. latex gloves and alcohol spray.

Tattooists have a duty of care to their clients to ensure that the client is safe from infections within the studio so whilst the use of close-fitting examination latex gloves and the constant sanitisation of the tattooists skin is essential for the safety of the client, it can cause very dry skin which is sometimes recognised as a glove allergy.

Most skins sanitisers have some form of alcohol in them and whilst it is a very effective, “bug killer”, it is also very effective at, destroying the natural oils or lipid layer as it is known.
Latex type gloves are without doubt the best barrier that we know of however they too can also have a detrimental impact on skin. It would not be unusual for a busy tattooist to wear gloves for over five hours in a working day. This constant wearing of gloves causes the skin to perspire excessively, which reduces the moisture content in the skin and causes what most would call a latex glove allergy.

Once the lipid layer has been destroyed by the alcohol the skin will quickly start to dry out which will be exacerbated by the wearing of gloves. Dry skin quickly loses its suppleness and starts to split and crack, particularly around the tips of the fingers and where it stretches over the knuckles. If the problem isn’t dealt with at an early stage the breakdown of the skin can very quickly lead to infections and other potentially more serious issues.

The damaged skin is not only a medical condition it also causes personal embarrassment and professional difficulties, after all, who would want their skin touched and tattooed by someone who has damaged hands from a glove allergy.

As one user said
“I am 64 years old and have been a professional tattoo artist for 42 years now.
Around twenty years ago we were advised to wear gloves for work. Unfortunately these were latex. Subsequently over the years I developed dermatitis. This was not good for my health as well as my business, due to the damage caused to my skin.
Last summer I experience a severe bout of dermatitis, putting me out of work for two months.
Tattooing is more than a job to me, it is my life.
As my skin was so bad, my son looked into what could be of help…. He found you guys. Having read your site I made up my mind to contact you. I spoke to Peter, whom was most helpful. I placed an order. From the first application, I was back to work, I found the product protecting and healing, at last I had found a solution.
I cannot thank you guys enough, it’s like being given my life back. I still have the glove allergy but I know your product is stabilizing it.
I look forward to doing business with you for a long time to come!”

Tattoo Aftercare

Tattoo aftercare is as important as choosing the correct artist to produce your body art. Having a tattoo is probably one of the most visible ways of self expression. It says a lot about you and who you are so its important to take care of yourtattoo from the moment you leave the studio.

Creating a tattoo involves making a wound. Just like any open wound it is important to take care of your tattoo to minimise the risk of bacterial infection but also to ensure that all the hard work of your tattoo artist does not go to waste. An infected tattoo will not only cause you pain and discomfort it can also lead to far more serious health consequences. In addition a tattoo infection can have a seriously detrimental impact on what your chosen design actually looks like once the infection clears up.

Most tattoo artists will agree that the quicker the tattoo healing time the brighter and longer lasting the colours will be. If the wound scabs excessively and then splits your pride and joy can end up looking a complete mess, that may, in worst case, even need surgical removal.

 As one user said:

“…..My last tattoo involved over 21 hrs in the chair so I’m no stranger to tattoos and know I need to have excellent aftercare. In the past I have used [product name removed] but I have found it hard work to apply and it always seems to leave a sticky residue on whatever I come into contact with. With my last tattoo Brent (Brent’s Tattoo Studio, Dunstable) applied Derma Guard immediately after he was finished and then I applied more three to four times a day. The thing with Derma Guard is that you don’t know you’ve got it on your skin and it doesn’t leave any marks on furniture or clothes. What was amazing was the way it stopped any swelling and I couldn’t believe how quickly my tattoo healed without any peeling…..”

How Derma Guard provides tattoo aftercare:

Skin that breathes and perspires normally will heal quicker. The quicker the tattoo healing time the more the ink is held in and the better your tattoo will look. Derma Guard’s formulation is not petroleum based so will not clog your pores and will not “drain” the colour.

Keep your fresh tattoo infection free to ensure it looks as you and your artist wanted it to.  Reduce your tattoo healing time. Aloe Vera and Vitamin E are both well known for both antibacterial properties and their positive impact on healing skin.

Spend your time enjoying your life and admiring your new body art rather than spending ages trying to rub in thick or sticky preparations.  Derma Guard is dispensed as a light and easy to apply mousse that can be used on any area of your skin and is especially easy to apply over large areas.

Don’t scratch it! Why risk damaging your fabulous investment. Sometimes, despite the fact your artist has used the best products available, you may find yourself with an itchingtattoo. The ingredients in Derma Guard will break that itch – scratch – itch cycle and because there are no fragrances it is unlikely to make it worse.

The better your skin looks – the better your tattoo will as well. Properly moisturised skin always looks good and the top quality moisturisers contained within Derma Guard will play their part in keeping your skin looking healthy.
